How the numbers are worked out
The formula, in words
Reviews a month = customers you ask x that share.
The link check accepts a Google review link in one of two forms: g.page/r/ followed by an id, or search.google.com/local/writereview with a placeid. Anything else shows [your review link] instead.
Text counts use the GSM-7 rule: 160 characters in one text, 153 per part when joined. A character outside GSM-7 drops that to 70 and 67.
The wording is plain text we wrote. Edit it freely. Nothing in a message tells the customer what to write or what rating to give, and none of it offers anything in return.
What the tool cannot know
- Whether a customer chooses to leave a review. That is always theirs.
- Whether Google shows or filters a review. It decides.
- Your own rating. This tool does not change it.
- Whether your link still works. Test it on a phone that is not signed in to your profile.
Every assumption, and who set it
| Assumption | Value | Set by |
|---|---|---|
| Customers asked a month | 40 as an example | You |
| Review share | 15% as an example | You, from your own history |
| Message wording | Our plain templates | Firmkit, you edit it |
| Review link | Blank until you paste it | You |

Questions people ask
When is the best time to ask for a Google review?
Ask as soon as the job is done and the customer has seen the result, ideally the same day or within a day or two. Tie the ask to a step you already do, like closing the invoice. Avoid asking while a problem is still open or before the customer has tested the work.
How do I get my Google review link?
Open your Google Business Profile, find the option to ask for reviews and copy the short link it gives you. It starts with g.page/r/. Test it on a phone that is not signed in to your business account, and check that it opens the review box for the right business.
Can I offer a discount for a Google review?
No. Google does not allow paying for reviews or rewarding them with discounts, gifts or free service. You may ask for an honest review, but you cannot attach anything to it. Policies change, so read the current version on Google's support site before you build a process.
What should I do about a bad review?
Reply calmly and quickly. Thank the customer for the feedback, say you are sorry it went badly and offer to make it right by phone. Do not argue in public or share private details. Future customers read your replies to judge how you treat people. Ask for reviews from everyone.
How many reviews should I ask for each month?
Ask every customer after every closed job. A steady flow beats a big burst and looks natural. How many reviews that gives you depends on your own ask rate, which this tool lets you set. Send one gentle reminder at most, then let it go.
